Our Approach

Where Product Development Breaks Down

Most product development processes are built around formulation—not production.

A product may perform in small batches, but that does not guarantee it will hold up under real manufacturing conditions. Differences in equipment, process, and scale introduce variables that are often not addressed early.

These issues typically surface during scale-up, when the cost of correction is highest—impacting timelines, margins, and the ability to move into production.

Alchemy approaches development differently.

Formulation, process, ingredient selection, and manufacturing constraints are aligned from the start, so the product is built for execution—not rework.

Where Products Break

What works in development often fails in production. Process conditions, ingredient behavior, and equipment differences introduce variables that are not visible early.

Built Around Production Constraints

Formulation is developed alongside manufacturing realities—co-manufacturer capabilities, processing conditions, and cost targets are considered from the outset.

Designed to Hold at Scale

Fewer reformulations. More predictable pilots. Products that perform consistently in production and maintain quality through shelf life.

An Execution-Focused Approach

Alchemy approaches product development as a continuous process that extends through production.

Rather than separating formulation, sourcing, and manufacturing into independent phases, we align them from the start. This ensures that decisions made during development support what is required at scale.

Our role is not advisory.

It is to carry the product through development and into production with continuity across all phases.

Led by Experience in Real Production Environments

Gabriel Claycamp is a chef-trained product developer and operator with more than two decades of experience building and scaling food businesses. Prior to founding Alchemy, he led product development at HighKey, contributing to over $57M in net sales.

That experience shapes how this work is approached—formulation decisions are made against real production constraints, scale is considered from the outset, and execution is prioritized over iteration.

This is the difference between a product that works in development and one that performs in production.

How Our Work Is Structured

A Continuous Path to Production

Each engagement is structured to maintain alignment from concept through execution.

1. Product Definition

Formulation targets are established alongside cost, process, and shelf-life requirements.

2. Formulation & Validation

Products are developed and tested with production conditions in mind.

3. Ingredient & Supply Chain Alignment

Suppliers, specifications, and lead times are defined early in the process.

4. Co-Manufacturer Selection

Manufacturing partners are identified and evaluated based on product requirements.

5. Production Run Support

Direct involvement continues through initial production to ensure execution aligns with expectations.

Designed for Execution at Scale

When formulation, manufacturing, and supply chain are aligned from the outset, products are significantly more likely to perform as expected in production.

Co-manufacturer fit is established before critical decisions are made, ingredient sourcing supports scale rather than constrains it, and production timelines become more predictable.

The objective is not to complete development. It is to complete production successfully.

Brand Alignment and Best Fit

Built for Brands Preparing to Scale

Alchemy’s approach is designed for brands operating with real timelines, capital, and a defined path toward production. The work is most effective when there is a clear objective to move beyond development and into execution.

Most product development processes are built around formulation—not production.

A product may perform in small batches, but that does not guarantee it will hold up under real manufacturing conditions. Differences in process, equipment, and scale introduce variables that are often not addressed early.

Alchemy approaches development differently. Formulation, manufacturing, and supply chain are aligned from the start, so decisions are made with full context—reducing rework and improving the likelihood of success in production.

Best Fit

Brands preparing for production, scaling beyond initial development, or working toward pilot runs and co-manufacturer placement.

These engagements are typically focused on solving a specific constraint—whether in formulation, commercialization, or ingredient sourcing—based on where the product is in its lifecycle.

Maximized Value

The strongest outcomes are achieved when formulation, manufacturing, and supply chain are developed in parallel within a single, coordinated engagement.

When these elements are aligned early, products move more efficiently through pilot, require fewer iterations, and perform more consistently in production—reducing risk across timelines, cost, and execution.

Move Forward with a Clearer Path to Production

Whether you need support in product development, commercialization, or sourcing, we start with a focused discussion to assess the product, identify execution risks, and define the most effective path forward.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We start with a focused discussion to understand the product, the current state of development, and the constraints heading into production. From there, we define a scope that aligns with your goals—whether that’s a targeted engagement or a more integrated path to scale.

No. We can support earlier-stage products, but the work is most effective when there is a clear intention to move toward production. Our approach is built around execution, not open-ended development.

Yes. We regularly support specific areas such as formulation, commercialization, or ingredient sourcing. That said, the strongest outcomes are achieved when these elements are aligned within a single engagement.

We work across a range of food and beverage categories, including snacks, bars, confections, beverages, and protein-based products. The focus is less on category and more on building products that perform under real manufacturing conditions.

No. We are not a co-manufacturer. We develop products and support the process of getting them ready for production with the right partners.

Timelines vary based on the product and scope, but most development and commercialization work falls within a structured timeline designed to move efficiently toward pilot and production.
