CPG PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Products Built for the Real World.

Developing a successful consumer product takes more than a great idea. Alchemy brings formulation, sourcing, manufacturing, and commercialization together to develop food and beverage products designed to succeed beyond the bench.

Develop

Formulation grounded in consumer expectations and commercial requirements.

Validate

Testing and process development to prepare products for manufacturing.

Commercialize

The suppliers, manufacturing partners, and documentation to bring products to market.

MORE THAN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Great Products Need More Than Great Formulas.

A successful CPG product must satisfy two environments: the consumer experience and the realities of commercial production. Taste, texture, functionality, and presentation matter. So do ingredient availability, manufacturing requirements, shelf life, and cost.

Alchemy connects these considerations throughout development rather than treating commercialization as a separate process. We bring formulation, sourcing, manufacturing, and technical execution together to develop food and beverage products built for commercial reality.

OUR EXPERTISE

Different Products. One Commercial Discipline.

Food Product Development

From snack and protein bars to savory snacks, confectionery, meat products, and specialty foods, we develop formulations around the sensory, functional, and manufacturing requirements of each product category.

Beverage Product Development

Beverage formulation introduces distinct challenges in ingredient interactions, stability, processing, packaging, and shelf life. We develop beverage concepts with the technical and commercial requirements of production in mind.

Emerging Brands

For founders and growing brands, product development is only one piece of bringing a product to market. Our structured development approach connects formulation with the suppliers, manufacturing partners, and commercial groundwork necessary to launch.

THE COMMERCIAL PROBLEM

A Great Prototype Isn't Always a Great Product.

Some of the most expensive challenges in CPG development don’t appear until a product approaches production. By then, early decisions about ingredients, processes, and packaging may be difficult and costly to change.

01 / MANUFACTURING

The Formula Doesn't Scale

Mixing, heating, forming, filling, and packaging can change product performance when production moves beyond the bench.

02 / COST

The Economics Don't Work

Ingredient pricing, manufacturing yields, packaging, and production minimums can push costs beyond what the business can support.

03 / SUPPLY CHAIN

The Supply Chain Isn't Ready

Suppliers, material specifications, manufacturing capacity, and lead times must align before a product can move into repeatable production.

04 / VALIDATION

The Product Isn't Ready

Shelf-life, stability, regulatory, and process requirements can delay launch when validation is left until the final stages.

THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

From Concept to Commercial Production.

Our CPG product development process brings technical and commercial decisions together, reducing uncertainty before a product reaches manufacturing.

01

Define the Product

We establish the product brief, sensory expectations, nutritional objectives, target cost, intended claims, packaging considerations, and manufacturing requirements.

02

Develop the Formula

Through iterative formulation and bench testing, we refine sensory and functional performance while evaluating ingredient availability, cost, and production feasibility.

03

Establish the Supply Chain

We identify suppliers, evaluate commercially available ingredients and materials, and align the formulation with the manufacturing capabilities needed to produce it.

04

Validate for Production

As the product requires, we coordinate shelf-life evaluation, laboratory analysis, pilot production, process refinement, and manufacturing trials to uncover scale-up challenges.

05

Prepare for Commercialization

We consolidate the final formulation, process requirements, specifications, supplier information, and supporting documentation into a foundation for commercial production.

THE DELIVERABLES

Built to Move Beyond the Bench.

Our development work produces more than an approved sample. It builds the technical and commercial foundation required to take food and beverage products into manufacturing.

Commercial Formula

A documented formulation aligned with agreed sensory, functional, nutritional, and commercial requirements.

Ingredient & Material Specifications

Relevant ingredient information, supplier specifications, packaging inputs, and material requirements.

Manufacturing & Process Requirements

Process guidance, production parameters, and pilot findings to support scale-up and repeatability.

Commercialization Package

Organized formulation, cost, supplier, validation, and technical records for the next stage of production.

BUILT FOR WHAT COMES NEXT

Development With Commercial Outcomes in Mind.

Our objective is not simply to make an excellent prototype. It’s to develop food and beverage products that consumers want and businesses can produce, price, and support.

WHY ALCHEMY

Product Developers Who Think Like Operators.

Alchemy approaches CPG product development with an understanding of what happens after a formula leaves the lab. Our experience extends into ingredient procurement, manufacturing, commercialization, and ongoing product operations.

That perspective shapes the ingredients we select, the processes we design, and the commercial partners we recommend. A finished prototype matters—but so does a credible path to producing and selling it.

BEYOND DEVELOPMENT

Development Is One Part of Building a CPG Business.

Food and beverage brands need more than a formulation to grow. Alchemy connects product development with managed operations, procurement coordination, and margin optimization as the business moves into production.

Managed Operations

Ongoing production coordination, supplier management, and operational oversight as products enter the market.

Procurement

Ingredient sourcing, supplier qualification, purchasing coordination, and supply-chain visibility.

Margin Optimization

Identifying opportunities to improve product economics through ingredient, sourcing, and process decisions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions Before We Get Started.

Answers to common questions about developing and commercializing food and beverage CPG products with Alchemy.

Yes. We work with new concepts, existing recipes, and established products that need reformulation or commercialization support. We evaluate the starting point, identify the technical and manufacturing requirements, and define the appropriate development scope.

Yes. We work with emerging food and beverage brands preparing for their first commercial launch and established companies expanding product lines, reformulating products, or solving manufacturing challenges.

Timelines depend on product category, formulation complexity, ingredient availability, testing, and manufacturing readiness. Many standard programs take approximately 90–120 days; complex products or production validation can take longer.

For client-funded development, ownership of the final formula transfers according to the development agreement, generally upon full payment. Alchemy retains ownership of its pre-existing methods, tools, and know-how.

Yes. Our development approach includes preparing products for commercial manufacturing and supporting pilot validation. We can also assist with co-manufacturer identification, evaluation, and technical coordination, depending on the agreed engagement scope.

Alchemy can continue supporting the product through Alchemy Managed Operations, which provides ongoing production coordination, supplier management, and operational oversight. These services are separately scoped and agreed upon.
