CASE STUDY 01 / FOUNDER EXPERIENCE

Reinventing Indulgent Snacks for a Low-Carb Market.

HighKey
Keto-Friendly Cookies & Snacks

The Challenge

Creating better-for-you snacks is one thing. Delivering the taste, texture, and indulgence consumers expect from traditional cookies and snack foods—without conventional sugar or high-carbohydrate ingredients—is another.

HighKey set out to challenge the traditional snack category with products designed for consumers seeking lower-carb, keto-friendly, and gluten-free alternatives.

Achieving that vision required more than replacing sugar or flour. These ingredients play important functional roles in flavor, texture, structure, and processing. Removing them meant rethinking how the products were formulated while preserving the qualities that make traditional snacks appealing.

The Approach

Before founding Alchemy in the Kitchen, Gabriel Claycamp played a leading role in HighKey’s product formulation and development.

His work focused on translating familiar snack experiences into better-for-you formulations without sacrificing the sensory qualities consumers expected.

That required balancing ingredient functionality, product performance, and manufacturing requirements. The challenge wasn’t simply developing something that tasted good on the bench. The formulations also needed to translate into commercially manufactured products with consistent quality.

This combination of food science and commercial practicality helped support HighKey’s growing product portfolio.

The Outcome

HighKey successfully introduced a portfolio of keto-friendly snacks and established itself as a nationally recognized brand in the better-for-you snack category.

Gabriel’s experience developing products for a rapidly growing consumer brand helped shape the commercialization-first philosophy he later brought to Alchemy in the Kitchen.

Today, that same philosophy informs Alchemy’s approach to product development: building products around the realities of formulation, manufacturing, sourcing, and scale from the beginning.

CASE STUDY 02 / ALCHEMY PROJECT

Bringing Wholesome Family Snacks to Market.

Sunnie Snacks
Nutritious, Convenient Snacks for Families

The Challenge

Sunnie Snacks set out to create nutritious, convenient snacks for families using exceptionally short ingredient lists and uncompromising standards for ingredient quality and sourcing.

The challenge extended well beyond developing products that tasted great. Sunnie’s rigorous ingredient requirements and unusually restrictive list of prohibited ingredients significantly narrowed the available formulation options. Every ingredient had to earn its place, meeting the brand’s standards while contributing to taste, texture, functionality, and commercial viability.

Creating familiar, enjoyable snacks within those constraints required a particularly disciplined approach to formulation and ingredient selection.

The Approach

Alchemy supported Sunnie through formulation, product development, ingredient sourcing, supplier development, and commercialization.

Ingredient selection was central to the process. Working within Sunnie’s exceptionally strict requirements, the team carefully evaluated ingredients and potential suppliers against the brand’s standards, while accounting for each ingredient’s functional contribution to the finished product.

The objective wasn’t simply to minimize the ingredient list. It was to develop products where every ingredient served a clear purpose, sourcing decisions reflected the brand’s commitment to ingredient integrity, and the resulting formulations could be successfully produced at commercial scale.

The Outcome

Sunnie is now available nationwide at Target and Whole Foods Market and has begun distribution with Costco.

Alchemy’s contribution centered on formulation, product development, early sourcing, supplier development, and commercialization support. Sunnie’s current retail presence demonstrates how far the brand has progressed in bringing its family-focused snack offering to market.

Building a Better-for-You Pasta for Commercial Growth.

Care Free Kitchen
Better-for-You Pasta

The Challenge

Care Free Kitchen set out to create a better-for-you pasta alternative for health-conscious consumers seeking to enjoy familiar, satisfying meals while accommodating their dietary preferences and nutritional goals.

The challenge was delivering the familiar taste, texture, and cooking performance consumers expect from traditional pasta while meeting the product’s nutritional objectives. The formulation also needed to perform consistently at commercial scale.

The Approach

Alchemy supported the development and commercialization of Care Free Kitchen’s pasta product, helping translate the brand’s vision into a commercially viable product designed for consistent production.

That relationship extends beyond development. As an Alchemy Managed Operations client, Care Free Kitchen receives ongoing support with production and supply-chain management, connecting the initial commercialization work with the operational needs of a growing brand.

The Outcome

Care Free Kitchen successfully brought its pasta product to market through Amazon, making its better-for-you pasta available to customers across the country. Within its first year, the brand achieved an annualized revenue run rate of more than $1 million.

Alchemy continues to support Care Free Kitchen through Managed Operations, providing ongoing production and supply-chain management as the brand grows.
